Why Andorra is comparatively simple
There are no significant FCDO advisories affecting Andorra, and standard specialist coordination is sufficient for the vast majority of cases. Civil registration runs through the local Comu, the parish authority, in Catalan, and documentation requires certified translation like anywhere else, but the administrative process itself doesn’t carry the layers of complication seen in many other origins.
The two costs that do apply
Andorra has no commercial airport, so every case needs a road transfer, either to Barcelona El Prat, roughly three hours away with frequent direct UK flights, or to Toulouse-Blagnac, also around three hours by a northern route with fewer direct UK connections. That road transfer is a genuine cost specific to Andorra, one that a case from, say, Madrid or Barcelona itself would never need.
The second is cremation. There are no cremation facilities in Andorra at all. Where a family wants cremation rather than burial, the body has to be transferred into Spain or France first, adding a step, and a cost, that doesn’t apply where cremation is available locally.
Where non-natural deaths sit
Where death isn’t from natural causes, the Cos de Policia d’Andorra investigates and has to authorise release of the body, the same as any jurisdiction. This doesn’t tend to add the extended delays seen in busier, larger countries, given how few cases the Andorran authorities handle in a typical year.
Consular support from Madrid
The British Embassy in Madrid handles Andorra on a non-resident basis. That’s a normal arrangement for a country this size, and it doesn’t meaningfully add to timelines or cost, since Andorra’s proximity to Spain keeps coordination straightforward.
