Cargo still has to be pre-booked through an approved IATA handler, but the routing itself is a genuine structural advantage.
The military distinction that changes everything for some families
Bahrain hosts HMS Juffair, a permanent UK Royal Navy base, and this matters enormously for a specific group of families. Military personnel who die in Bahrain are repatriated through military channels coordinated by the Ministry of Defence, not through civilian repatriation services, and the cost structure is entirely different as a result. What drives cost in a civilian case
For a natural death confirmed by a Ministry of Health physician, the documentation moves relatively directly. For anything unnatural, sudden, or suspicious, the Public Prosecution opens an investigation and must issue a release order before preparation or transport can begin, with the Forensic Medicine Department at Salmaniya Medical Complex carrying out any required post-mortem. As in most jurisdictions, time under investigation adds cost. Cremation isn’t available under Islamic law, so full body transport applies to every case regardless of family preference, which is a fixed cost element rather than a variable one.
